DQG and Shell announce winners of EBWA 2008


Shaikh Saeed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum handed out on Tuesday the awards to eight winners of the Emirates Business Women Award (EBWA) 2008 in Business and Professional categories at a gala dinner ceremony held in Grand Hyatt Dubai.Paris Gallery was appreciated for their support as a Gift Sponsor of the Award, according to a Press release.

Shaikh Saeed also gave a special recognition to Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai; for her dedication and contribution to the development of women. Raja Al Gurg accepted the trophy on behalf of Princess Haya.

Garnering the top EBWA 2008 award during the ceremony was Maryam Sharaf, the Overall EBWA Professional category winner.

Also awarded were
Mary Jane Alvero - Al Mahdi, runner-up in the Professional category;
Criterion winner Shaikha Azza bin Rashid Al Nuaimi (Leadership);
Criterion Winner Dr Nawal Al Hosany (Business, Professional and Career Achievement; Criterion winner Maryam Al Jallaf (Business, Professional and Career Achievement);
Criterion winner Haleh Janani (Future Goals and Financial Performance);
Criterion Winner Monira Safar (Community Contributions and Participation); and
Criterion Winner Mona Al Kandi (Innovation).
Organisers DQG and Shell, also gave certificates of appreciation to the sponsors, supporters, assessors and jury members of EBWA 2008.

May 06 2008 Jury panel deliberates on winners of EBWA 2008

The winners of the 2008 Emirates Businesswomen Awards (EBWA) were determined following the final meeting by jury members who spent several weeks assessing all entries.

Attending the final deliberations included Najlaa Al Awadhi, Member of the Federal National Council and General Manager of Dubai One; Dr. Mariam Matar, Assistant Undersecretary, Public Health and Primary Health Care, Ministry of Heath and Chairperson of the National Diabetes Committee; and Judge/Dr. Jamal Alsumaiti, General Manager, Institute of advanced Legal and Judicial Studies, Dubai. The winners will be announced during the final ceremony on Tuesday, May 20th, 2008. Organised by Dubai Quality Group and Shell Group of Companies in the UAE, EBWA is open to both nationals and expatriate women in the UAE. It will be awarded in two categories - Business Owner category and Professional Woman category; with Paris Gallery as main gift sponsor.


April 05 - 2008 DQG & Shell extend deadline for submission of entries for Emirates Business Women Award 2008

Dubai Quality Group and Shell have announced that they have extended the deadline for receiving applications for the Emirates Business Women Award 2008 from April 3rd, 2008 to April 14th, 2008.

The extended submission period for entries allows EBWA, which is also supported by Paris Gallery, the prize sponsor, to widen its reach and encourage participation from more candidates.

Samia Al Yousuf, General Manager of DQG commented: 'There are a lot of women in the UAE who deserve to be recognised, while there has also been strong interest from potential candidates; we are offering these new prospects the opportunity to be considered for EBWA 2008 by giving them more time to prepare and consolidate their credentials. As such, we have decided to extend the deadline for submission of applications from the 3rd of April till the 14th in order to accommodate more candidates'.

'The significant impact of EBWA 2008 on the professional development of UAE's working women is clearly reflected by the number of successful career women who have been part of this initiative over the years. We must therefore provide all the necessary assistance to allow all deserving professional and business women to take part in the EBWA program,' said Omar Al Qurashi, Communications Manager, Shell.

Organised under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Department of Civil Aviation, Chairman of Emirates Group and Patron of DQG, EBWA 2008 aims to recognise and reward the exemplary contributions of women in the business and professional sectors of the UAE.

The Award has generated strong response from business and professional women after DQG successfully organised several promotional activities, including a series of workshops held in the different emirates.

EBWA is open to nationals and expatriates and is awarded in two categories - Business Owners and Professionals.

To qualify for the Business Owners category, the applicant must own a business in the UAE and must also be primarily responsible for the current performance of the business, while the Professional category requires the applicant to be employed in any professional sector in the UAE.

On receiving the applications, the award panel will shortlist the candidates based on their achievements and arrange site visits to further assess them, before announcing the winners of the award during the final on May 20, 2008.

Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, EBWA 2008 aims to recognise and reward the exemplary contributions of women in the business and professional sectors in the UAE.

 'The Emirates Business Women Award is another important phase in our continuing pursuit to strengthen the professional capacities and recognition of women, and to promote excellence in the country. The previous five editions of EBWA have been immensely successful, and it is Dubai Quality Group's goal to sustain the momentum by promoting the event to an even greater number of women through the different workshops we are organising,' said Samia Al Yousuf, Manager, DQG.  

The workshop and networking forum gathered women from various professional and business backgrounds, and focused on the opportunities and challenges faced by enterprising women in the UAE. It also provided insights into the key factors that have contributed to Lama A. Farsakh being proclaimed the 2007 winner. Monday, January 07 - 2008 Dubai Quality Group and Shell launch Emirates Business Women Awards 2008
Dubai Quality Group (DQG) and Shell Group of Companies in UAE have today launched the sixth cycle of the Emirates Business Women Awards (EBWA) during a press conference held at Al Murooj Rotana Hotel, Dubai.

The event, which is held under the patronage of  H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, will recognize and reward the exemplary contributions of women in the business and professional sectors in the UAE. Prior to selecting the winners, DQG and Shell, which have co-organised EBWA since its highly successful debut in 2003, will conduct a series of workshops from January to March 2008 and will accept applications for the award until April 3, 2008. Final assessment and the culminating ceremony will be held in May 2008.

EBWA is one of the foremost awards in the UAE that recognises the extraordinary contributions of women, and operates with the aim of cultivating equal opportunities and building a better society. Winners are chosen based on five criteria:
Leadership; Future Goals and Performance; Business, Professional and Career Achievements; Community Contributions and Participation; and Innovation. 'DQG recognizes the importance of the proactive participation of women in the Group's mission of promoting business excellence in the country. EBWA has been widely credited as an economic booster as it has helped create a platform to support the business activities and professional development of women, whose huge economic potential remains relatively unrealised. Through the years, the program has identified and recognised the achievements of business and professional women, and has created a pool of role models who have inspired other women to become achievers in various fields of expertise.

The Award is open to nationals and expatriates and will have two categories - Business Owners and Professionals. In the Business Owners category, the applicant must currently own a business located in the UAE that has been in operation for a minimum of three years. The applicant must also be primarily responsible for the current performance of her business. The Professional category applicants must be employed in the UAE for a minimum of three years. All candidates for the EBWA 2008 will be given the advantage of mentorship from winners of EBWA 2007.

'As a previous winner of the EBWA in the 'Professional' category, I have first-hand experience of how valuable this Award is, as it opened up many doors of opportunities for achieving my personal and professional goals. The skills I gained by participating have also given me a great advantage for success,' said H.E. Dr. Mariam Matar, Assistant Undersecretary, Public Health and Primary Health Care, Ministry of Heath and Chairperson of the National Diabetes Committee.
