Qatar Business Women Award 2008 announces third workshop

Following the successful participation of close to 110 candidates in the first and second workshops of the prestigious Qatar Business Women Award (QBWA) held on April 28th and May 14th respectively, a third workshop is scheduled for June 10th, 2008 at the Qatar Chamber of Commerce & Industry (QCCI) headquarters. QBWA is a partnership comprising QCCI, the Qatari Business Women Forum (QBWF) and Qatar Shell that aims to identify and pay tribute to business and professional

Qatari women whocontribute to Qatar's society and economy through their significant professional or entrepreneurial achievements.

The award will focus on women who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and managerial qualities in their fields.

The purpose of the QBWA workshops is to acquaint participants with the application process and the importance of the selection criteria that candidates need to demonstrate in applying for the award. Lectures are conducted in Arabic and English.

With such a large turnout for the first and second workshops, close to 200 women are expected to attend the QBWA lectures by the end of the third workshop. Places are still available for business and professional female nationals to apply for the QBWA workshop

Qatar Business Women Award 2008 announces second workshop

Following the remarkable success of the first workshop of the prestigious Qatar Business Women Award (QBWA) held on 28 April 2008, a second workshop is scheduled to take place on 14 May 2008 at the Qatar Chamber of Commerce & Industry (QCCI) headquarters.
Launched in December 2007 under the auspices of Her Highness Sheikha

Mozah Bint Nasser Al Misnad, the QBWA-which is a partnership comprising QCCI, the Qatari Business Women Forum (QBWF), and Qatar Shell- aims to identify and pay tribute to Qatari women that contribute to Qatar's society and economy through their significant professional or entrepreneurial achievements.

The award will focus on women who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and managerial qualities in their fields.

The purpose of the QBWA workshops is to acquaint participants with the application process and the selection criteria for the award.

The lectures put emphasis on the importance of the criteria that the participants need to demonstrate in applying for the QBWA, such as their business, professional & career achievements, leadership qualities, ability to coach, and their contributions to the greater community,

Ms Judith Barton, Director of The Development Partnership who lectures candidates in English said 'I was very impressed with the caliber of the ladies who attended the first workshop. We had highly motivated participants from such diverse fields as banking and advertising to governmental and medical institutions as well as business owners - all of whom are extremely keen to participate in the award scheme.'

With close to 50 Qatari women attending the first workshop, Mrs. Eman Ghafan Al Basti, board member of the QBWF said 'The QBWA is a great opportunity for successful female entrepreneurs and Qatari professionals to gain a platform in business, and it is encouraging to see so many women attended the workshop and are keen to make a difference to Qatari society. I'm sure this time round we will have more than 50 participants sit in on the lectures.'

The deadline for QBWA applications is 5 October 2008.

First workshop for Qatar Business Women Award (QBWA) a resounding success

The first workshop for business women and professionals interested in participating in the inaugural Qatar Business Women Award (QBWA) was successfully carried out at the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Doha on the 28th of April, 2008.
Launched in December 2007 under the auspices of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Misnad, the QBWA was created to identify and reward excellence in female managerial ability in the Qatari workforce.

Close to 50 enthusiastic female entrepreneurs and professionals attended this one day workshop.

The lectures were conducted in English and Arabic by Mrs Judith Barton from The Development Partnership, UK and by Mrs. Eman Ghafan Al-Basti, board member of the Qatar Business Women Forum, respectively.

The purpose of the workshop was to acquaint potential candidates with the application process and selection criteria that will be used to determine who the winners will be.

Special focus was placed on the importance of producing the necessary evidence in terms qualifications and work experience when filling-out the application.

The lectures also highlighted certain attributes that will be looked at closely by the jury when selecting the top candidates. These qualities included leadership, coaching, training and mentoring; contribution to the greater community; and innovation in the work place.

At the end of the workshop the ladies were presented certificates of participation by QBWF organizers. The next QBWA workshop will take place on May 14th at Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and submission of final applications for the award is 5th of October 2008.

Qatar Business Women Award 2008 unveils its logo and website and announces the launch of workshops

Launched under the auspices of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Misnad in December 2007, the Qatar Business Women Award (QBWA) 2008 unveiled its logo and website, and announced the launch of a series of workshops for Qatari ladies interested in applying for the award.
The first workshop will take place at the Qatar Chamber of Commerce & Industry (QCCI) on 28 April 2008.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at the QCCI headquarters by Mr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Raheem Al-Emadi Vice-Chairman of QCCI, Mrs. Aisha Alfardan, Vice-Chairwoman of Qatar Business Women Forum, and Mr. Andy Brown, Shell Country Chairman in Qatar.

QBWA 2008 will identify and pay tribute to Qatari women who have been contributing to Qatari society and economy through their significant professional or entrepreneurial accomplishments. This award will focus on women who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and managerial qualities in their fields. QBWA 2008 is being promoted and organized by a partnership comprising QCCI, Qatari Business Women Forum (QBWF) and Qatar Shell (Shell).

Created by Fatma Al Moghunni, a distinguished graduate of VCUQ, the logo's design is inspired by the emergence of Qatari women as business and professional leaders and who are at the center of the economic growth and prosperity that the country is witnessing. It also portrays Qatari women who are taking confident steps in shaping the nation's future, side by side with their male companions, but still keeping their roots and culture. The design conveys these concepts in harmony. The Qatari flag shaping the woman's profile emphasizes the interdependency between the modest woman and the nation; one shapes the other. The pearl symbolizes the precious harvest of the nation through its educated women. The design is kept delicate and simple yet sophisticated and bold in announcing the success and appreciation of Qatari women.

The new QBWA website: www.QBWA-qatar.com will provide all the necessary information on this unique award. Its design is simple and friendly to the user seeking to understand what this recognition is all about and the process that needs to be followed to apply for the award.

In order to provide interested ladies with information about the application process and selection criteria for this award, four workshops will be conducted over the course of the next two months. Carried out in both Arabic and English, the half-day workshops to be held at the QCCI and will take place on the following dates: 28 April, 14 May, 15 May and 2 June. The QCCI is located at C-Ring road.

QBWA 2008 is open to Qatari women under two categories - Business Owners and Professionals. To qualify for the Business Owners category, the applicant must own a business located in Qatar that has been in operation for a minimum of three consecutive years with primary responsibility for the current performance of her business, while for the Professional category, the applicant must have been employed in any professional sector in Qatar for a minimum of three consecutive years.
