Competency Assessment and Development

Organisations need to communicate their expectations of performance and the manner in which they are to be carried out.

Recruiters use competencies to "frame" the job and interviewers seek evidence of candidates meeting the competencies.

These should communicate the requirements whilst aiming to remove value judgments. To achieve this the competency framework needs to be designed with great care identifying measurable components and grouping them in clusters or "families". To assist the user, definitions or examples of each competency should be presented. Competency frameworks should not only be useable but also clearly take account of legislation and ensure none of the competencies discriminate against any particular group of employees.
